Side Effects Of Low Carb Diets

The low carb diet is a diet plan that causes weight loss by restricting the daily carbohydrate intake. This allocates the body to reduce the amount of insulin production, and forces the body to use stored fat as energy. This form of diet can make the body lose weight fast in the short-run, but can have harmful side effects if continued as a permanent diet.

A low carb diet makes room for proteins and fats as substitutes to carbohydrates. Health experts argue that this can be harmful to the health. One of the reasons being that such diet plans will not result in a balanced diet, because the body would be deprived of essential nutrients and fibers from certain restricted foods such as grains, fruits, and vegetables. The high fat intake in a low carb diet can be harmful to the heart in the long run, and increase risks of strokes, kidney problem, or digestive cancers. Moreover, a low carb diet will slow the body’s metabolism because the body loses muscle mass, which causes muscles to become saggy.  It also causes an unhealthy physiological state called Ketosis.

A low carb diet works, because it limits calorie intake, but is effective only for a short period of time. And it is not a healthy way of eating as such a diet only harms the body in the long run
