Doctors Being Slow To Address The Obesity Problem |
A lot of people are surprised to find out the attitude the doctors have when it comes to obesity and some strategies were recently released from the Stop alliance for obesity. It took a survey that helped to reveal what doctors felt about obesity and addressing the problem. When a patient is overweight almost 90% of the doctors take it on themselves to teach and let the patient learn how to lose weight. What really surprised people with the survey is that 72% of the doctors claim that they have not been trained to deal with issues that might be weight related or obesity. Most patients just assumed that they had been trained regarding obesity. Another survey was also done and taken by the patients that are obese and it said that only 39% of the adults had been told by their doctor that they where obese and that 90% said they should lose weight but was never told how nor given any guidance on the matter. Some feel that doctors might not have the confidence that it takes to help and give the right kind of guidance on losing weight and therefore some wonder if they might be putting their patients at risk for not guiding them the right way. |
